2011 Topps Gridiron Legends Box Break

November 3, 2011

This set sounded great at first hearing. A mix of past Legends, current Stars and of course, the latest crop of Rookies. But how does it stack up ? Let’s take a closer look at a box…

What you’ll get – 8 Cards per Pack (6 if it contains a patch), 18 Packs per Box. Box Price Range – Low – $60+

Base Veteran Cards – 76

The design is clean and crisp, but some may see it as a little dull. There seems to be a bit of an issue with the foil used for the names on a few of our cards, it hasn’t transferred cleanly in the emboss process. As for variety, the players range from Y.A. Tittle through to Ndamukong Suh with a lot of big names in between – There’s something for everyone in this set.

Base Rookie Cards – 37

11 Round 1 Picks

8 Round 2 Picks

7 Round 3 Picks

6 Round 4 Picks

4 Round 5 Picks

1 Round 6 Pick

Base RC’s are essentially the same as the base veterans, except they sport the now familiar small Topps “Rookie Card” emblem.

Inserts and Parallels – 13

5 Gridiron Legacies (Veterans)

4 Aspiring Legacies (Rookies)

2 Legendary Combos ( Dual of a Veteran paired with a team mate Rookie)

1 Bronze Parallel /299

1 Green Parallel /150

16 Blue Parallels (Blue background version of base card on thicker stock)

Game Used and Autographs -4

1 Aspiring Legacies Jersey Taiwan Jones (Round 4 pick)

1 Green Aspiring Legacies /150 A. J. Green (Round 1 pick)

2 Base Rookie Autographs  Greg Salas, D.J. Williams (Round4 & 5 picks)

Nothing too surprising here, but I guess you shouldn’t expect too much when you get 4 hits in a $65 box. Auto’s are stickers and the Jerseys are quite neat with a reasonable size swatch where the NFL log would be on the non jersey version of the card. Some of the much scarcer Autograph combo’s feature some impressive pairings or even triples, Montana and Rice, Warner and Bradford or even Bettis, Franco and Mendenhall.

Final thoughts –

While it could probably do with a little more color or something, I like this product, and I especially like that I went very well Rams wise with the Salas AUTO and a Dickerson numbered green parallel. The final Rams count was 6 for a Rams factor of 4.6% and I’ll certainly take pulling a Rams Auto any time I can. I’m already looking forward to my next box of Topps Gridiron Legends.

Eye Candy –
